EXP2 Week3(FINAL SUBMISSION)

a. On- the spot Investigation

Site1: Water Tank

Site 2: Phone Tower

Site 3: Soccer Field(SELECTED)

Unlike the other two sites which are smaller and locate in the deep of  the main park, the soccer field is seperated from the main park and has a large empty lawn beside, making it a ideal site for my marker as I want my marker to serve as a little courtyard. People can gather easily there. In addition, the terrain of this site is higher, which enables visitors from all directions to catch sight of  the marker from a distance without being blocked by the lucus.

c. Scenes From Lumion

The marker is surrounded by various flowers, making the space full of vigour.

People can rest on the bench.

Visitors can enjoy leisure time in this little courtyard. Eg. Children can dabble or fly a kite. The old can take a walk .

The marker looks peaceful at night with the gentle lighting.

The marker can be easily seen from a distance.

Texture1: The pattern is inspired by SANAA's works(chequer), the broken texture and the new colour are suitable for this portion.
Texture2: The pattern is inspired by the word, stoney, representing the themes of 'nature' and 'aboriginal culture'.
Texture3: The pattern is inspired by SANAA's works( Stripe & Austerity). People can easily recognize the rest place by applying this texture on the bench.

d. Design Concepts(SANAA) & Themes

Concept of Block1(The stone-like part): Simple geometry with some parts hollowed out

Concept of Block2(The white part): Whiteness, Austerity, Integration(with environment)

Whiteness

Integration

Austerity

Two portions with different concepts inlay with each other to form the marker, which is a combination of tradition and modernization.

The themes of this marker can be summarized by three words: nature, culture and family.

Far from downtown Sydney, Blacktown International Sportspark locates in a small town called Rooty Hills with pleasant natural environment around. The pond and the ornamental vegetation on the marker express the theme of "NATURE".

Blacktown has a splendid aboriginal civilization. The two stone-like figures represent the theme of "CULTURE".

Aboriginal

The park serves as not only a sports venue, but a ideal place for family gathering. The whole marker is designed into a little courtyard, which expresses the theme of "FAMILY" and well brings three themes together as well. Using the marker as the core, there can be a garden on this empty space in the future. People can watch the soccer matches and spend a leisure time at the same time.
